We Are All Sponges -Work in Progress
We Are All Sponges is a video work in progress, I began the project in February 2025 and anticipate completion of three similar transition will be completed by April 2025. The work still needs color grading and fine tune editing. The work is a a horizontal 4k video without sound.
We Are All Sponges examines the intricate relationship between consumption and perception in contemporary life. Just as a sponge absorbs liquids, we internalize media, narratives, and digital experiences, shaping our neuroplasticity and cognitive patterns. This video artwork invites viewers to reflect on how these influences mold our inner worlds.
My work employs vivid installations and textures that mirror that of the hyper-imagery found in late-capitalist advertising aesthetics. Fixation, achieved through cropping and framing, serves as a perceptual guide, influenced by my experiences as a neurodivergent individual.
By integrating ASMR elements—gentle gestures and immersive textures—the piece offers a somatically soothing alternative to visual consumption. A sensory recalibration of the nervous system.
Rooted in neuroplasticity and the contemporary attention economy, We Are All Sponges fosters an empathetic understanding of complex systems, acknowledging how each individual navigates a web of influences. Rather than merely critiquing consumption, the work offers a restorative engagement with imagery.
The video highlights our shared sensory experiences, and the porous internal structures that make up every being.
